I had an epiphany this weekend. I have been overwhelmed and stressed for the past few months, and it is because of a number of reasons. I’ve been stressed and taking too much on my plate than I should’ve. After a little bit of self-care this weekend, I kind of got this moment of clarity which I haven’t had in a while, and I started thinking more macro. Why am I so overwhelmed? Maybe the company structure was running too much through me. We had several fires, what can we do to avoid fires? Can we eliminate fires? Finally, learning that you could never run a business that never has fires, but what you can do is to prepare for war. And that is what we’ve been doing since I’ve realized what these fires are. Our company is now ready to take on anything that happens to us without taking a step back because everyone knows in business, three steps forward, two steps back so by mitigating these risks, we’re in a better position.

Another big epiphany for me was self-care is so vital. You’re using your brain for work, and you need your mind clear and healthy. You need some time for yourself to sharpen that saw like they said in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Once you got that, I got some more clarity, and now I understand where we’re going: Leading my team to the right direction and leading my company to where it needs to go — understanding that fires will come but taking care of myself through it so I don’t get overwhelmed and coming at it.

Finally, a sense of curiosity for each task, you have this much to do every single day and if you come at it with “I got to get this done! I got to get this done!” as fast as possible then you’re never gonna enjoy it. If you really enjoy the journey, you break it down, and you enjoy each task that you’re doing. You have to call a client back. ENJOY it! You have to deal with one of your employees. ENJOY it! I’m doing what I chose to do, and it gives you this refreshed attitude towards everything, and that’s ultimately what’s going to give you longevity.
