What are Hashtags and how you can use them? I want you to start by thinking about places like Facebook and Instagram. What happened was, Facebook decided instead of just tagging people and instead of just tagging places, how about we also start tagging categories or interests, this way people can search for a specific topic that they’re looking for because they are interested in either seeing images about it or content about or whatnot.
Let’s take Instagram as an example, if I type in to Instagram “Cats” and I look at the results for Instagram on “Cats”,guess what my results are going to be?there are going to be tons of “Cats” and everybody who Hashtagged “Cats” when they post, they’re essentially going to be updated in real-time, meaning the most recent post under the hashtag category of “Cats” is going to be the person who posted the most recent picture while hashtagging “Cats”.
You can do this on your business of course and why is this important obviously, “Cats” not so important for our business but hashtagging is the reason, it gives you exposure to potential new business if you’re a new Instagram account or Facebook account, how are you getting people to look at the content you’re putting up, you might have fantastic content but the problem is you have the billboard underground, no one is seeing it if you have zero followers but if you’re hashtagging, now you’re showing up in the category under the search results when people search for those categories so it is important that you put in the right hashtags and there are few things that you can do that we’ll talk about later like trending hashtags and what’s popular and whatnot but for the purpose of this video, let’s understand that hashtagging is a way to get exposure, even when you are an existing business, not just the new ones. This is one way for people to find you if your hashtagging things that are relevant to your post and that are interesting to the people searching for.
