SEO is a scary word mostly because people don’t understand how it works, they don’t have ideas on what it is so today we’re gonna talk about understanding SEO in under 3 minutes. Think of SEO as a web with your website being the center of that web and what you’re essentially trying to do, your goal is to get Google and other search engines to recognize your website as a dominant source when someone searches for a specific keyword. For example: “Dental Services Los Angeles”. If you’re a dentist, this is important for you to rank for this keyword and the way Google looks at different websites determines where you’re going to rank, whether number 1 on Google or page 5000. Going back to the web, if you have your website built properly, your next step is going to be to optimize pages to be relevant to specific keywords. Your first step is going to be finding out what keywords people are using when they are searching for you. Once you know that, for example again: “Dental Services Los Angeles”, is an easy one to understand, you can now have a page in your website that literally the title is “Dental Services Los Angeles” and in your content you actually wanna write that word several times but don’t overdo it because you might get penalized by Google. The general rule of thumb is to have keyword density of about 4%-5% out of the total content you write and once you’ve done this, Google now recognizes this page on this website is related to “Dental Services Los Angeles” and now, that ranks you against other people who have the same keyword that they’re targeting. You’re gonna step it up a notch, and now you’re gonna start writing about “Dental Services Los Angeles” in a blog that you might have, this gives you more credibility. Google will say “this guy doesn’t just have on one page or one title, he also actually also has it in his blog several times, I think he is more relevant for this keyword than this guy down here”.so you just beat out the competition, right? The problem is there’s a lot more competition so there are a lot more tips I’m gonna be giving you on simple things and understanding how it works. Article Writing is another really useful tool you can use, if you have external articles written and there are relevant and reputable third-party website, what you can do is you can have a hyperlink from those articles with the keyword that says” Dental Services Los Angeles”, when people click on that, I want it to go back to your website, specifically to the page that says “Dental Services Los Angeles”. If you do that now, Google will say: “okay, not only this page is recognized as that service but other websites are referring back to this page for that specific service” now, you are more reputable. Having it on your blog, having it on your webpage and having it on third party articles helps build your credibility with Google. Now, Google looks at you as a top contender for this. In a nutshell, I want you to always think of building your web out through your website as the center again and having all these external links whether its articles, blog and think to yourself social media, you have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and all these other ones. If you start building this web around, your website, over time you’ll be reputable and ultimately that’s how your SEO gets higher over time.
